nightbot shout outs

so after many failed attempts at shouting out people in my twitch chat, i learned that it didn’t exist because my dumb ass never made the actual command. well now i have a command.

i enjoy using nightbot for my twitch commands as it stays active even when i am offline. although this doesn’t really matter with shout outs, i don’t care, i am using nightbot.

start by going to the ‘commands’ tab in the menu and then ‘custom’. now click the ‘add command’.

for the command line, make it whatever the fk you want. i like ‘!so’ or ‘!shoutout’.

now add your message. here is the command line i use to activate the shout out:

check out $(touser) last seen playing $(twitch $(touser) “{{game}} at {{url}}”)

**careful with copying and pasting this text into nightbot. for some reason the formatting causes nightbot to mess up. you can copy and paste the demo text at the bottom of this post (highlighted in grey boxes).**

you can customize whatever you want the text to say that is highlighted in purple. the main command being $(touser) and then using $(twitch $(touser) with quotes “{{url}}” to link the channel and “{{game}}” to link what game that person is playing. make sure to end it all with the right parenthesis ‘)‘. a simple shout out could be like:

go follow $(touser) at $(twitch $(touser) “{{url}}”)

also, go ahead and change the ‘userlevel’ to ‘moderator’ that way only mods can use the shout out command.

i don’t know what the ‘alias’ thing is so just leave it blank. it is not needed for the basic shoutout command function.

now whenever you want to shout out someone in your chat (or not in your chat), you just type ‘!so @username’ and boom, you are done.
